Community Update 11/11/24

Good afternoon, community –
Sharing a few resources that we have been made aware of that you may be interested in depending on your circumstances.
Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP) – Buy Out or Home Elevation
Below is a link to a 7-minute webinar on house elevation and buy out programs in North Carolina for property owners at risk of future flooding.

Fencing Grant
This application is intended for livestock producers in western North Carolina who were impacted by Hurricane Helene. Stay-Tuff has offered to do what they can to help with both donating supplies and time of their fencing crews. This application does not guarantee your acceptance to the assistance program but all applications will be heavily considered. Fill out the application at the link below if interested.
Have Land with RV/Trailer Hookups?
Nanostead and the Community Housing Coalition in Marshall have an ongoing list of folks needing housing. A big need right now is land with septic and power hook ups to put RVs and trailers on. If you have this setup available on your property, please consider making it available to families in need.
Childcare at Woodson Branch
The Lighthouse Project at Woodson Branch will continue to offer after-school childcare on a donation-based system. They are also accepting donations of art supplies of all kinds for this project. Click here to sign up for the After-School Community Lighthouse Project.
Additional Bridge Funding and Important Reminders
People with bridges that are out can contact the Community Housing Coalition in Marshall. They may be able to help with additional funding. Home – CHC Madison County NC or 828-649-1200.
  • The CHC mentioned that you need to make sure that FEMA will reimburse for your bridge repairs. You may need to wait and have FEMA pay as the construction is done.
  • SAVE YOUR RECEIPTS – If you receive FEMA funding to repair your home or bridge, it is vitally important that you save any and all receipts for these repairs. If another flood were to occur, FEMA will not provide additional funding unless you are able to prove that previous funds were used for improvements to the damaged property. If you sell your property, these receipts will also need to be passed along to the new owners.
