Why did you choose Spring Creek for your business?
I didn’t. Except for when I was a little kid, I never thought I would own my own practice. The overhead seemed too high and I am very practical. I did remote work in Spring Creek for a few years and saw the need. I opened my practice extremely part-time while working for the man. It was hard to say “no” to paid time off and health insurance. I didn’t realize quite how much I missed working directly with pets and their families until I spent a lot of face-to-face time after Hurricane Helene. That’s when I decided to make the jump and make Spring Creek Mobile Vet my full-time job.
What does community mean to you?
I didn’t know what community was until Spring Creek. Now, I know it’s the Hootenanny, Fish Breakfast, and buying soda from your neighbor at 8pm because you really need it but Trust is closed.
Community starts out as reciprocal courtesy and grows to mutual trust and respect regardless of our differences.
How did you get into the work you do?
I begged my mom and dad and began ‘volunteering’ for our local veterinarian when I was in elementary school. He was kind enough to let me come and watch surgeries, shadow him in appointments, and clean kennels. There were several veterinarians over the years that let me get the experience I needed to get into vet school and wrote recommendation letters. Without them I wouldn’t have had a chance.
How long have you been in your industry?
I have been working (for money) in animal welfare and health for 23+ years. I have been a veterinarian for over 13 years at this point.
Do you live in Spring Creek? Surrounding area?
Yes, and I never want to live anywhere else.
What do you love most about Spring Creek?
The people.
Do you have any pets?
Yes, I have the best cat in the world named Handsome Daniel. I also have many other lovely cats that are also the best cat in their own ways, dogs, horses and goats.
Is there anything unique about you that you would like to share with the Spring Creek community?
I volunteer a lot with a lot of different organizations including animal control, the board of health, animal rescues, and the Spring Creek Community Center. When I have a free moment, I usually want to stay at home and work on projects.
