Why did you choose Spring Creek for part of your practice?
Dr. Grace Wilson and I began trading treatments with each other mid 2024 and the first acupuncture session I received from her was at the SCCC. The drive from Asheville as I peaked over the top of Dogget was serene and the treatment experience from Grace matched. After a few months she started telling me that I would love the people in Spring Creek, and she was right! Then I met Toni Cordetti who started an amazing thing here for alternative/holistic style healthcare. Toni and I instantly aligned on many of our ideals and she told me that she was retiring. With her advice I decided to start attending the Tuesday/Thursday Forever Fit class and I knew from day 1 that I wanted to be around these folks more, they make me feel like I’m at home and a sense of community like that is rare in my life. So I quickly decided that I’d like to share my skills and a bunch of smiles with Spring Creek for what I hope is a good while.
What does community mean to you?
Community to me is a sense of feeling like I’m at home or with family even when there’s no blood relation. Having people around that I want to learn from and and laugh with because we’re all happy to be alive.
How did you get into the work you do?
My mom used to massage my legs and feet as a kid with growing pains during soccer seasons. When I was in middle school she had neck surgery and for the first time she was at home whenever I got back from school for. It lasted for a couple months so I decided to start massaging her neck every day. 7th grade was my first time giving “therapeutic” body work, and for my mamma! Then during college I was fortunate enough to stumble upon a workshop for Thai Massage and right away I knew I should be hands on with people so I decided to pursue.
How long have you been in your industry?
I finished at the Center for Massage and Natural Health in downtown Asheville in 2016 and have been licensed ever since.
Do you live in Spring Creek? Surrounding area?
I live in Candler right now, I’m a renter so I don’t own a property. My first office and client base is in Swannanoa and now the second is in Spring Creek. If I didn’t have such a set routine in the Asheville/Swannanoa area I probably would’ve already tried to move out this way. So despite being an outsider I’m definitely here because y’all feel like home.
What do you love most about Spring Creek?
I’ve got to reiterate it’s the way people here make me feel when I see them and talk to them. There’s a connection that feels wholesome.
Do you have any pets?
The downside of having multiple one year leases and some places not allowing pets has led me to move my dog Jasper in to my mom’s house with her dog and my dad’s cats. He’s got more friends that way. He’s a little terrier mix with one blue and one brown eye, he wiggles when he sees me and he’s got the most sass I’ve ever had in a dog.
Is there anything unique about you that you would like to share with the SC community?
I think something unique is that I got to live out one of my childhood dreams by playing lacrosse in college at Lenior Rhyne. That was the pinnacle of what I wanted from age 4 and on, thanks to my parents support and my hard work I was able to walk on to a first year team. It’s 11 years later now and they just won back-to-back national titles. Small bit of pride for that!
What activities would you like to see or recommend the SCCC host?
I know from the collective of Brooke, Grace, and myself we would like to host a community healing day every quarter. A time where we have massage tables and acupuncture recliners out in the open for anyone to come receive or just observe community style treatments. I think it’s really neat getting to watch people do their work that they’re passionate about and we would love to teach a few things.
