FEMA

FEMA applications: Tuesday 12-5pm. Julia Mansfield and Debi Foster will be at the SCCC to assist with applications for Disaster Assistance, Unemployment, and they are also willing to help contact your insurance company and read through your policy with you.

There are several forms in the donation area that give more information about FEMA related to applying for disaster relief, Well and Septic issues, Information about driveway repair/driveway bridges, and scams to watch out for.
In speaking with FEMA representatives, it sounds like generally, they do not replace anything (homes, driveways, private roads, private bridges). That coverage must be through private insurance. For items not covered by private insurance, the county can make requests to large non-profit agencies . For anything not covered, people may have access to low-interest loans for things like driveway bridges.  PLEASE, contact FEMA for more information. Their phone number is 1-800-621-3362, 7 am – 10 pm.  If people can send a list of repair work they DO need, we can request FEMA to fill those needs.  If FEMA does not fulfill, we can ask the non-profits.
Hot Springs is now working with a NC Incident Manager to help organize digging out from the storm.

Firewood
Yesterday, we began unloading firewood for community use. It was tremendously successful.  We received a huge load of freshly cut firewood from Robert who generously dumped it in the area between our community dump site and the fire department.
We also received a semi-truck trailer load of dry oak firewood from our friends from Parkway Baptist Church in Hodgenville, KY.   That was distributed to homes by our volunteers.  Please thank these guys for their hard work yesterday.  Excess firewood will be stored between the dump and the SCVFD back in the field across from the playground.  This area will become FIREWOOD CENTRAL. Come and get what you need. If you need some delivered, please let us know.
If you wish to donate wood, or logs from your property for community use, please bring it to FIREWOOD CENTRAL.  We will begin cutting and splitting firewood there soon.
If you need a pallet to store your firewood off the ground, there are pallets available behind the community center leaning up against the building.  We can get more as needed.
Another truck will be coming with more dried oak firewood.  Please reach out if you or your neighbor needs some. It does not matter if your wood was washed away or if you just have not had time to prepare for winter due to all that is going on.  We are happy to share with ANYONE who is in need.
We will need more volunteers to haul wood when we get that next load coordinated.  STAY TUNED.
The Parkway Baptist group will begin building a 3 sided drying shed for the green wood we are collecting.  They will likely get the posts set for this project while they are here this week.  Then, they plan to come back and help us finish it.
Please let us know if you would like to help with building this shed, or cutting up all the green wood that we will start collecting as folks begin their cleanup.
