Daily Update 10/8/24

Donations:
Please continue to come to pick up whatever supplies you may need for you, your household, and your neighbors. We have a great supply of cleaning products, household supplies, non-perishable food, and WATER. We will continue to be open until 5pm every day to meet your needs.
We have also set up a white board in the donation area of the community center for anybody to write down items that you need, but are currently unavailable. We may have resources to bring in some of these items, or place orders for them if needed.

EMDR Therapy:
Billie Hinton is a licensed clinical social worker and has been working as a psychotherapist for over 30 years, with an emphasis on treating trauma. She has been providing EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to her clients for over a year now, after doing intensive training on the protocol. It’s considered the gold standard treatment for trauma and she has found it effective for herself and many of her clients. It can be very useful in processing recent trauma.
Billie’s practice is in network with most insurance companies on Headway.co and has signed up via BCBS to be on a list of providers who can work with people impacted by the hurricane. She always keeps a few slots for people who need help and have no insurance and low income. For more information or to get in touch, please see the links below:

Bridges of Madison County:
We are continuing to work on finding outside funding for those of you who have a private bridge that needs repair. If you want to get an estimate and let us know how to help, we can work with outside funders and do the best we can to support your needs. We are not able to make any promises yet, but we want to know your needs so that we can make a case for funding in Spring Creek.
Construction Repair Estimates:
Mike Toney has offered to help people estimate their construction needs for insurance purposes. If you would like help, please contact Mike directly. 828-244-3770
Kentucky Friends:
Our very wonderful, hardworking team of volunteers from Parkway Baptist Church will be leaving on Wednesday after a full day’s work. They have been amazing partners and plan on returning to assist with additional projects, and to bring more dry firewood for the community. While here the past couple of days, they have helped with house repairs, building foot bridges, and are working on creating firewood storage here at the community center so we can split and store green wood for seasoning. They also helped a local farmer with their farm. They are in this for the long haul and we are so grateful for their support and contributions, and look forward to welcoming them back with open arms.
New Firewood Coordinator:
Mark Hopey has volunteered to help coordinate our firewood distribution. If you have firewood needs, or would like to help split, stack, or deliver wood, please get in touch with Mark. 828-736-1217.
Morning Inclusive Prayer Circle:
Rebecca Gahagan will be facilitating an inclusive prayer circle at 8:30am each morning around the flagpole in front of the SCCC. Any and everyone is welcome to come and pray.
Free hot meals at SCCC:
The community center is picking up hot food from Hot Springs to begin serving lunch roughly 12 noon and supper from 5-7 pm or until we run out. First come – first served! We will continue offering this service until further notice.
Thank Yous!:
We have begun writing thank you cards to all of the wonderful donors who have contributed funds via the Spring Creek Community Center website. These have been coming in from all over the country, and we are so grateful for the outpouring of love and support from family and friends, near and far. If you have any extra thank you cards with envelopes, please bring them to the morning meeting tomorrow at 9:30am so we can continue to fill these out. If you want to help write thank you notes, stop by the SCCC library.
