Our board organizes and leads many of the activities moving the goals and mission of the center forward. The term is 3 years with the option for a second term.
Communications

The communications committee manages the website, social media and the newsletter. The group creates flyers for events, building guidelines, and makes sure events are advertised in all the appropriate locations. Anna Robas is the webmaster, Ginger Kowal updates website content, and other members support the website and social media with graphics and content.

This committee inspects the building for needed repairs, works with tenants to make needed improvements. If the work can be done by volunteers, they help with the organization of the activity. If the project needs to be outsourced, they will arrange for estimates for contracted work.

The construction and renovation team leads all major construction in the building. This includes community surveys, working with architects for needed designs, and regular communication with the county.

Our grounds committee focuses on the property outside of the building. This includes grass maintenance, creek cleanup, planters, and landscaping. This group also leads Phase 4 which is the plan for a walking trail, basketball court, picnic, and playground.

The committee that writes and manages grants works with all other committees that need to fundraise. The team looks for grants, makes inquiries, does the legwork required for each application, and manages the grant once it is awarded.

This committee encompasses a large group of people. Routinely, there is a board member who leads a specific fundraising event. The larger group are the volunteers who show up to plan the event, volunteer the day of the event, and organize any follow up required. Examples of our fundraising events throughout the year are the Yard Sale, Car show & Pie Contest, Christmas Bazaar, and Bluff Mountain Festival. Additionally, this committee manages the logistics of donations. They advertise for donations in all our social media and communication modes as well as arrange for easy payment options (cash, check, Stripe). The Treasurer sits on the committee.

As part of our strategic planning, it is vital to make sure we have regularly scheduled (monthly) fun activities for people of all ages. These events include BINGO, game night, movie night, craft events, and outdoor activities.

One of the community center’s strategic goals is prioritizing education. This includes adult programs on a variety of topics including county services or projects, agricultural extension, environmental stewardship, self-sufficiency skills, 1st Aid/CPR/AED Trainings, Aging-related resources, Kith and Kin, and legal resources. SCCC also has goals for future youth programs like 4H.

There are two separate lease committees. The tenants in the building have leases for businesses they manage. Annually, the leases are reviewed and discussed with the tenants. The treasurer manages the income from rentals. The Community Center also maintains a lease with the county and volunteer community members help to support and give direction for the lease partnership with the county.

It is important for an organization to have a strategic plan. All the board members are involved in the process. There are 3 leaders who ensure we stay focused which entails regularly scheduled strategic plan review, community surveys, and training on the elements of a strategic plan.
Finance

The treasurer manages the finances for the organization. This includes bookkeeping, monthly finance reports, annual budget plans, paying bills, filing taxes, and making deposits. The treasurer and president have access to the bank accounts.
Health & Fitness

Our health and fitness committee targets our community and how we can remain healthy. The exercise class leaders are an active part of this committee. In addition, we maintain an area in the entrance of the building with an AED, health brochures, COVID and Narcan kits, and other health related pieces. The Health & Fitness committee will also look into relevant trainings and educational presentations.
