Foodshed meeting

A group of Spring Creek growers and community members are starting a food council! Join us to learn more about the project and to get involved.

10 am in the SCCC gym.

Mission and Goals of the food council and food shed:

– Bring more food producing opportunities to Spring Creek. In the form of farms, a food hub, increased size and variety to farmer’s market.

– Increase our community food security.

– Access to healthy poison free food for our community.

– Economic opportunity with the creation of jobs + keeping money in the local economy.- Ultimate goal is to create a “foodshed” which is a similar concept to a watershed.

How:

We are seeking guidance through WNC Food Systems Coalition ( https://wncfoodcoalition.org/ ) and NC Cooperative Extension. I’m sure more resources will present themselves as we dig in ;). Our group Phillip Kendall, Ruthie Celis, Ryan Holm, (potential) Amanda Viselli, Matt Coyle and myself plan to meet with WNCFSC and Elizabeth Ayers to get information on how to go about  starting a food council. WNCFSC has successfully aided 18 other counties in WNC. Madison county has been on it’s radar for 2025.
